Austin and the Handbuilt Show

The purpose of the trip was to attend & cover the Handbuilt Motorcycle Show, I think it was their 10th year. BMW is the title sponsor, so there was a big BMW presence – both corporate and built bikes. Definitely heavy on Airheads, which is why I wanted to bring Daren Dortin – he does the Airhead 247 podcast. We both got a lot of content.

George showed me how to do the fork seals, which is shockingly easy once everything is apart. NOT EASY is getting the front brake caliper properly adjusted.

New alternator and ignition system!

Big day working on the bike at George’s shop—no doubt one of the last I’ll have. Installing the new alternator was surprisingly easy and we got it right on the first try. I’m as stunned as anybody.

Another day for just running errands. It’s an excuse to get out on the bike. I took my wife to work in the car, came home, geared up. Bike started OK—not super easy on the first hit like the other morning when Scott was here, but not endless minutes of cranking it, either.
