This represents a 3.7% decrease in sales compared to 2024 (210,408), though the marque’s trend continues on an upward slope overall. BMW Group’s full-year figures for the year won’t be available until later in Q1, when they release the annual report for 2025. Other trends affecting sales for the year include pricing competition from other premium brands, regulatory changes in some countries and turbulent tariff situations. BMW Motorrad enjoyed its third-best December ever in motorcycle sales, moving just over 15,000 units in that month alone.

Europe remained BMW Motorrad’s core market, claiming 58.7% of unit sales (118,814), a slight increase from 2024. Germany led the way with 25,516 sold, followed by France (19,019), Italy (16,692) and Spain (14,005). Sales in Central Europe reached a new high of 12,248 units for the year.

Outside Europe, the United States remains a key, though apparently declining market, with 14,869 units sold in 2025. Brazil is close on the heels of the U.S. with 14,488 units sold, followed by China’s 10,555 units.

In keeping with previous years, BMW’s biggest GS motorcycle led overall sales, with R 1300 GS Adventure sales (33,570) edging out R 1300 GS sales (32,555). Between them, the R 1300 GS bikes made up about a third of global sales. The third-best selling motorcycle in BMW’s line up was the S 1000 RR, comprising just under 6% of global sales (11,643). Middleweight (up to 900cc) bikes made up just over 20% of sales, with 41,166 units sold. The bikes powered by BMW’s S series, based on a robust 1000cc inline four engine, made up just over 10% of global sales, with 20,859 units sold. BMW’s urban mobility lineup—scooters—made up 9% of global sales, as they sold 18,400 C 400 GT, C 400 X, CE 02 and CE 04 two-wheelers. M series bikes—again based on an inline four—came in with 7,549 units sold globally, a bit under 4% of total sales.

While BMW Motorrad’s 2025 numbers show a statistical decrease over 2024, it’s important to remember the global economy is, in many ways, struggling across numerous sectors. In the United States, taking into account that multiple factors are always in play, it’s hard not to look at tariff-driven price changes and the resultant economic uncertainty as reasonable contributors to reduced consumer demand, delayed purchases of big-ticket items like motorcycles and caution in ordering inventory on the part of the dealer network. Riders in the U.S. probably shouldn’t expect dramatic changes in tariff policy in 2026, so it’s quite possible we’ll see the American market stay flat through next year and watch regions like Brazil and Spain continue to close the gap with the U.S. (or even overtake it) in overall sales.

U.S. sales/delivery figures: 2017, 13,546; 2018, 13,842; 2019, 13,379; 2020, 12,135; 2021, 16,030; 2022, 17,690; 2023, 17,017; 2024, 17,272; and 2025, 14,869.

BMW Motorrad attributes its ongoing sales resilience to a broad, appealing lineup of motorcycles and a longstanding leadership position in the realm of two-wheeled technology.
